Consisting of 24,000 islands, Stockholms Skärgård is the second biggest archipelago in the Baltic sea. It spreads around 60 km east of Sweden’s capital city and offers a beautiful landscape at the seaside. Due to the unique combination of nature and water, not only Swedes love to spend their summer holiday on one of the many sommarstugor.
Together with the student union, we took a bus to the city of Vaxholm, an old town in the Skärgården established in 1558. From there a ship brought us to the island Svartsö located in the outer ring of the archipelago. The 7 km2 island has a permanent population of about 80 people and invites for hiking trips and swimming both in the sea and in one of the island’s lakes.
